Artifact InSPECtor

NASA Science reports that a new citizen science project called Artifact InSPECtor is asking volunteers to help clean up telescope images. The project focuses on data from the Euclid space telescope, where false features called artifacts—caused by cosmic rays and other sources—can mimic real galaxies and confuse astronomers and their computer models. Volunteers examine labeled images and correct the algorithm's mistakes, which helps train the next generation of models to better separate genuine spectra from noise. That work supports Euclid and the upcoming Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope in their study of dark energy and the universe's expansion.
