Karmelo Anthony seeks new trial after 35-year sentence in killing of Austin Metcalf

world

According to The Guardian, attorneys for Karmelo Anthony are asking a Texas court to grant a new trial and to remove the state judge from the case. Anthony, nineteen, was convicted of murder last month and sentenced to thirty-five years in prison for fatally stabbing seventeen-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet in twenty twenty-five. In a motion filed Tuesday, the defense argues the conviction should be overturned, claiming prosecutors coerced Anthony into waiving his right to testify, along with additional grounds cited in the filing.
