Thousands march in South Africa demanding illegal migrants leave

world

According to France 24, tens of thousands of South Africans marched yesterday in the country's largest cities, demanding tighter immigration controls. The demonstrations, organized by around twenty civil groups, remained largely peaceful, though police made several arrests for attempted looting. The marches come as tensions over undocumented migration escalate — clashes in recent weeks have left at least four people dead. Police report that more than twenty-five thousand undocumented migrants have already left South Africa in response to these events.
