Switching gravity on and off leaves particles behind, mathematical model finds

science

Phys.org explains that Hawking radiation arises when particle‑antiparticle pairs spontaneously appear near a black hole's event horizon, with one sometimes falling in while the other escapes. This escaping particle constitutes the radiation that gradually saps the black hole's mass, leading to its eventual evaporation. As the late British physicist Stephen Hawking noted, the long‑term consequence would be that black holes could vanish entirely from the universe.
