A programme designed to expand higher education access for one million girls across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East has been cancelled by the British government just two years after launch. The scheme, dubbed SHEFE—for Strengthening Higher Education for Female Empowerment—had a forty-five million pound budget. According to The Guardian, cuts to foreign aid have prompted officials to withdraw the initiative, reversing a commitment made by the previous administration.
