Ann Widdecombe: police believe former MP was attacked almost 24 hours before being found dead – as it happened

The investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe, the former British MP, has taken a new turn, The Guardian reports. Police in Devon and Cornwall now believe she was attacked almost twenty-four hours before her body was found, and they are searching for a suspect described as a white male. A man arrested on Friday was released without charge. In the village of Haytor Vale, where Widdecombe was a familiar local figure, residents remembered her as a nice woman with a great sense of humour, one calling it tragic that a life given to public service could end this way.
