Conwy villagers flee homes as wildfires burn in Wales and England

Villagers in north Wales have fled their homes as a wildfire swept across a mountainside near Conwy, The Guardian reports. Firefighters declared a major incident, and residents described hearing the fire crackling down Conwy Mountain toward their houses as ash fell from a sky darkened by thick smoke. Major incidents were also declared in Derbyshire, England, with Natural England warning of what it called exceptional fire risk.
