Israeli ministers announce plans for new illegal settlements in Gaza and West Bank
world
The Guardian reports that two of Israel's most senior ministers — its defense and finance chiefs — have announced plans to build three illegal settlements in Gaza and to pour more than four hundred million dollars into expanding construction across the occupied West Bank. According to the paper, Israel's military commander for the region praised violent outposts as his security partners, while a top commander said Israeli forces now control sixty-five percent of the strip, in violation of the Trump ceasefire deal. The Guardian frames the push as part of a race by Benjamin Netanyahu's far-right coalition to seize land and drive out Palestinians ahead of national elections set for October twenty-seventh, before its governing mandate expires.
