Andy Burnham, Labour's new leader, is examining plans to cut household energy bills, as The Guardian reports. The proposals could reduce bills by one hundred thirty pounds a year by overhauling gas standing charges and making heat pumps cheaper to run than boilers. Burnham pledged to reduce the cost of essentials during his leadership speech, with a cost of living package expected to be among his first announcements if Labour reaches government.
